The Benefits of Making Your Own Electricity
The obvious benefit of making your own electricity is that you will be doing your part to save the environment (you'll be doing a lot more than most people.) But that's not the only benefit or reason to make your own electricity. Read this article for five reasons why you should power your home with renewable energy using windmills or solar panels.
#1 Saving Money. In these hard economic times one of the main reasons you may want to power your home yourself using alternative energy is that once you are generating your own power you will no longer have to pay expensive electric bills (which for many people exceed $200 a month.) Yes there will be some upfront cost in buying (or building) your own solar panels or windmills but once you are generating your own power you won't have any further costs and in the long run you should save a substantial amount of money.
#2 Saving The Environment. Well you can't save the environment all by yourself but you will definitely be doing your share by making electricity the "green" way. Renewable energy is a great thing for the environment, the more people that use renewable energy the better the environment will be and the more likely we'll have a planet to pass on to our children and our grandchildren.
#3 Setting An Example. You should also consider that while one person switching to renewable energy may not seem like such a big deal, perhaps the fact that you power your home yourself will lead other people to want to do the same thing. It would be great for you to be known as "the one" who started a great environmentally friendly trend?
Setting a good example for others is one of the greatest things you can do with your life. Not only for your children but for your neighbors. If you are a real trendsetter in the world of renewable energy that would be an incredible thing. Something that will make you feel like you are really doing something meaningful with your life.
#4 You Will Still Be Powered Up When Everyone Else's Lights Go Off. Imagine having the only house in the neighborhood that still has their electricity during the next snow storm that knocks out the electricity? That would be pretty cool wouldn't it? You can even invite your neighbors over at such a time if you want to really brag on what you've done!
#5 Making Money Selling Your Excess Electricity. You can actually sell any excess electricity that you produce that you don't actually need to the power company for a profit. Did you know? I don't think very many people do know it but it's really an amazing thing. Wouldn't it be cool to "flip the script" on the electric company and have them pay you instead of you paying them? Any electricity you don't need to power your home you can sell to the electric company (which will further help the environment as some of your neighbors will basically be using the electricity you create.)
